Launch a project knowing people will look at it
If you've made something for other people: other people need to try it.
Ideally, lots of other people.
Zero Upvotes Suck
Launching a new project on an online forum (like HackerNews or Reddit) has one big risk: zero upvotes.
Should you continue working on the project, try posting on the forums again, or give up? Was it how you worded the post? Was it unappealing? Or maybe you just got unlucky with your timing?
The feedback from no interaction on an online forum is unhelpful. It tells you nothing.
Emails give Fast, Precise Feedback
An email reduces the competition to a single inbox and for a single individual's attention.
An email list does this for multiple individuals, all at the same time. And it does this with their explicit permission; meaning they're expecting your email, maybe even excited by it.
Marketers call this direct marketing; the most effective marketing channel on the internet.
You don't have to be a Content Creator or Aggregator
Email lists are usually built by building an audience using a newsletter or blog.
But could you build one without turning into a full-blown content creator?
Urn thinks you can: by not trying for profound; just personal.
